Stamford University Bangladesh
Stamford University Bangladesh is graded as one of the top private universities in Bangladesh by the Government. At present it has about 14000 students, of which 3000 are postgraduates. The number of faculty members stands at about 300 under 16 Departments and 6 research centers. It has three campuses within Dhaka, which are located in Dhanmondi and Sidheswari areas.

The library subscribes to a wide range of books and journals. A wide range of software applications is available in the PCs of the Computer Laboratory. The laboratories are well equipped and some are shared by more than one department.

The university is large enough to support a wide range of academic and research activities while, at the same time, is small enough to ensure a sense of belonging of a community which is often uncommon in larger institutions.
Stamford University Research Center (SURC)
The Stamford University Research Center affiliated to the university is developed into a think-tank where experts, researchers, academicians, scholars and activists are offered a broad platform to work together on issues such as, research on computer, IT and engineering, social science disciplines, pharmaceutical and microbial studies, socioeconomic research and research on environmental issues and development, disaster management, including gender issues sustainable development, livelihood, and climate change. Broadly, these activities are coordinated through six centers, i.e. Center for Social Science, Laws and Humanities, Science and Technology Research Center including Pharmaceutical and microbiological Research, Center for Computer Science and Information Technology, Management and Business Research Center, Center for Development Studies including Women Development and Empowerment, Center for Environmental Research.
Objectives of SURC
Overall, the centre aims to act as a hub for academicians, intellectuals, professionals and scientists for providing various research findings on science and engineering, environment and developmental issues that are worth to draw the utmost attention of society for anthropogenic and scientific needs of Bangladesh vis-à-vis international communities. It is thus committed to its due responsibilities of academic in nature as well as building up national awareness through inviting and/or incorporating researchers at national and international levels.
Specifically, its objectives encompass:
- Initiating/facilitating research and development (R & D) of Stamford University Bangladesh through collaboration with international universities and research institutions.
- Short and long term exchange program of teachers, researchers and students with Stamford University and foreign universities and research institutes.
- Sponsoring and/or organizing popular lectures on science and technologies, various development and environmental (including built-environment) issues related to Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and to fulfill the national vision of digital Bangladesh.
SURC Activities
SURC is forwarding towards fulfilling its mission very rapidly. Research, training and consultancy - these three broad areas are the main focus of the center.

At present, the center is conducting on-hand on issues that are of national relevance. At the same time, it is encouraging collaborative research with various universities and institutions abroad. Towards this end, it seeks supports from different donor agencies as well as sponsors at home and abroad. The current issues encompass: computer, IT and engineering, pharmaceutical and microbial studies, socioeconomic research and research on environmental issues and development, including gender and women empowerment, sustainable livelihood and climate change.
