Academic Year: Trimester System Stamford University follows trimester system and in this system an academic year will be of 3 (three) trimesters. The schedule of an academic year will be as follows:
Graduation/Degree Requirements To obtain the degree of Stamford, a student must complete the minimum required credit hours of his/her respective program, which is preset and declared for each program. Although the passing grade point in a course of every program with major/concentration as per Stamford grading system is 2.00 on the scale of 4.00, a student must acquire a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or higher CGPA to obtain the Degree of Stamford University. Students must also complete the thesis requirement and a mandatory orientation course in 3 parts with a minimum grade of 3.0 in each individual 3 parts to achieve academic and total excellence in the program and to 'Bring Out The Best in a Student'. Orientation course is a pre requisite to get Stamford degree in all programs. Orientation 1. ORE 101: Freshmen Orientation The purpose of orientation and assembly is to foster a sense of community that is open, just, nurturing, caring, celebrative and supportive of excellence in teaching and learning. Orientation programs are also designed to enhance the intellectual, cultural, social and spiritual experiences of members of the Stamford family. In addition, orientation program also focuses on issues pertaining to leadership development, quality of life and social responsibility. This program will also inform the students about the rules and regulations of Stamford, duties and rights of students during their program in daily academic and related affairs. This course provides entering freshmen with a background of the non-academic aspects of the institution: the history, purpose, organization, policies and procedures of the university. The student is introduced to academic survival skills, library skills, leadership development, study skills, critical thinking, career planning, personal and social development and other relevant areas necessary for a successful university experience. Students have to strictly follow all the rules and regulations of the University without any deviation, as it is under supervision of the University authority in hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis during the total program period. The management team will grade the set factors on a pre-set numerical grading system confidentially to assess the individual GPA of 0.5 credit hours assigned for this course. A student must achieve grade point 3.00 to pass and that is a prerequisite of getting a Stamford Degree in any program. This course is required for all freshmen. 2. ORE 102: Continuing Orientation This is a continuation of Freshmen Orientation and in addition, this course introduces freshmen to various learning styles, career planning, health-related issues and personal and social development. Follow-up of Freshmen Orientation throughout the program period: A. To receive the course plan from every course teacher before or in the 1st class of the trimester and follow it in the classes. B. If student(s) are disturbed by any class fellow or by any other person, the matter should be immediately brought in a written form to Registrar Office with a copy to the Executive in charge of the Office of the President and Vice Chancellor. C. If the course teacher deprives students in classroom (s) or in student counseling session as per the course plan, the matter should immediately be reported to the Head of the Department in a written form with a copy to Registrar Office and the Executive in charge of the Office of the President and Vice Chancellor. D. The management team will grade the set factors on a preset numerical grading system confidentially to assess the individual GPA of 2 credit hours assigned for this course. A student must achieve grade point 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 to pass and that is a prerequisite of getting a Stamford Degree in any program. This course is mandatory for all students of Stamford. 3. ORE 103: Professional orientation - To prepare students for practical job operation. - To train them up (students) by internship, on the job training in the campus or outside the campus as far as possible. - Preparing students to face interview before a mock interview board by inviting reputed employers of our country and get the performance report evaluated for the students by those employers with recommendations and suggestions to improve students in general & in particular. - To find out students' main drawbacks and limitations to get the right job as the students deserve, on the basis of his/her qualifications and achievements during the program at Stamford - To teach and make them learn how to write a good Curriculum Vitae - Properly dress up for an interview - To train them up (students) to answer question to the point, without any irrelevant explanation or exaggeration in reply to a question. But in real need & situation, standard explanation should be given. - This course consists of 1.5 credit hours. A student must achieve grade point 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 to pass and that is a prerequisite of getting a Stamford Degree in any program. This course is mandatory for all students of Stamford. *Students who are at job will be exempted from the Professional Orientation course. Registration Students are required to complete their registration formalities for enrollment in the coming trimester. Without registration no student will be allowed to attend the classes and it will be considered that the student is absent from the trimester. Every student must register in-person. Advisement All students in the undergraduate and master programs will receive advisement prior to registration for each trimester. The program advisor will declare courses for different batches and programs before registration and advise students for their convenience. It is the responsibility of each student to comply with degree requirements and general regulations of registration. Course Loads The university mainly offers courses considering the ability of students and the duration of respective programs. If a student wants to take any course/courses beyond offered courses by the office for him, he/she is to give the evidence of the ability to complete such extra course/courses. Again if any student wants to take fewer courses from the offered courses, he/she is to apply to the office/program adviser mentioning the cause of his inability. Prerequisite Courses If any course has prerequisite course(s), every student has to complete that course(s) before taking the course. Without the completion of the prerequisite course(s), students will not be allowed to take the course any way. Registration Procedures - Registration form will be available at the registration office. - Completed registration form must be submitted at the office with the payment receipt as a proof that 100% of the registered course fee incurred by registration has already been paid to the university. - No registration form will be received without payment receipt. Proficiency in English To the modern world, proficiency in English is essential. So every student of Stamford must have proficiency in English. Taking this into account, Stamford offers several English courses for its students to create in them a sound working and technical knowledge of English and thus enable them to prepare themselves competent for national and international job markets. Stamford offers Basic English Course(s) for the students who are weak in English to increase their proficiency and they are supposed to pay for the course. Evaluation & Grading System Evaluation Procedures The performance of a student in any course will be evaluated on the basis of class attendance, in course/class test/class assessment, assignments/term papers/case, mid-term examination and trimester final examination. For All Programs: The whole course will be divided into two parts and the course evaluation would be as follows:
* For a 3.0 credit hours course minimum six class tests need to be taken and best four of them will be considered for evaluation. For a 2.0 credit hours course minimum five class tests need to be taken and best three of them will be considered for evaluation. ** After the completion of the midterm examination, the 1st part of the course would be considered completed and would not be carried for trimester final examination. Grading System The performance of a student in a given course is made through continuous evaluation that comprises quizzes/ in-course, class participation, attendance, home work/assignment, case study, mid-term and trimester final examinations. Letter grades and grade points are used to evaluate the performance of a student in a given course. A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C and D are the passing grades while F is the failing grade. The numerical grades used in calculating the GPA/CGPA (Cumulative grade point average) are as follows:
Calculation of GPA/CGPA Grade Point Average (GPA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the average of the grade points obtained in all the courses passed/completed by a student. For example, if a student passes/completes five courses in a trimester having credits of C1, C2, C3, & C4 and his grade points in these courses are G1, G2, G3, & G4 respectively then ![]() Suppose a student got grade point 4.0 in a 3.0 Credit hours course and 3 in 1.5 credit hours course then his GPA/CGPA will be as follows: ![]() Earned Credit Hours The course in which a student has obtained D or higher grade will be counted as earned credit hours. Any course in which a student has obtained F grade will not be counted towards his / her earned credit. In that case he/she will have to repeat the course. F grade will not be counted for GPA calculation. Marks of Class Attendance
Administration and Monitoring 1. At the beginning of a trimester, all the courses will be assigned by the Academic Committee comprising: a. Program Adviser b. Program Coordinator c. Two Senior Teachers 2. The course-teacher shall provide the students a course outline indicating the list of textbooks to follow, probable dates of in-course tests and home assignments. 3. The Academic Committee will monitor the progress of the course by sitting together at least once in a month, fix up the examination schedule and conduct the examination. 4. Result of each trimester will be published within a maximum period of 4 weeks from the date of last examination of the trimester final. Academic Probation Students of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate or any other academic and professional programs with a GPA less than 2.0 will be placed under probation. If a student fails to attend any class test, midterm or final examination, he/she will get a zero in that particular class test, midterm or final examination. A student securing grade 'F' in any course will require to repeat that course by paying full course fee. Repeating a course implies that the student has to attend all the classes, class tests, midterm and final examination as a regular student. Repetition of a course would be allowed maximum of three times. If any student fails to improve the grade within the stipulated times, he/she will not be allowed to take any further course(s) to continue until he/she improves the grade. Specialization and Internship/Thesis Specialization/Concentration Specialization/Concentration is designed for students of BBA/MBA to provide an in-depth understanding and vast knowledge on specialized or concentrated subject. It also provides adequate training to those students who wish to pursue a career in a specialized area. Stamford University offers specialization/concentration in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and Management Information System (MIS) for BBA program and in Finance, Management, Marketing and Management Information System (MIS) for MBA program. Students of these programs can choose one of the above-specialized areas only after the fulfillment of requirements for specialization. Requirements for Specialization Before moving to specialization/concentration every student has to complete the core and foundation courses designed for him or her. For Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BBA), a student must complete core courses before taking any specialization course. On the completion of the designed curriculum, he/she will be guided and provided with the permission of choosing one of the specialized areas. For Master of Science in Business Administration (MBA) a student must complete foundation and core courses before taking any specialization. Internship/Dissertation Internship, in the modern business world, helps students to demonstrate skills and competence from their supervised experience and, in addition, enables them to demonstrate maturity and acceptable professional, personal and interpersonal behavior. Stamford facilitates every student of Business Administration with internship providing placement for internship in renowned national and multinational organizations to enhance their knowledge and experience. Again students who believe their knowledge in a degree-related field could be enhanced by supervised practical experience within an appropriate organization may request an internship. Stamford University endeavors to secure the cooperation of relevant organizations in offering internships. (Whereby students can expand upon their classroom learning.) Students themselves may help arrange for internship placement and it is acceptable to Stamford. On the completion of the required curriculum, a student must apply for internship to the office at least a trimester earlier mentioning that he/she is going to internship/dissertation on the next trimester. After the completion of internship, student will have to submit a thesis paper on his/her internship and a supervisor will review his/her progress. Grade point will be awarded on the recommendation of the supervisor. Above all, the student who will be exempted from internship must complete courses of same credits with the prior permission of the proper authority. Project and Thesis Project and Thesis course makes the students suitable to work with supervisor to enhance their creativity and thinking capability through the study of advanced and new topics. Students use their knowledge to find out and modify existing theorems, hypothesis and/or procedures through analysis. Students through this course also know style and duty in research work. Rights of Students Every student of Stamford has some fundamental rights along with some rules & regulations to obey. Students must know their rights properly so that they can enjoy them. They should be careful and certain to follow the steps given bellow: - To receive the course plan from every course teacher before or in the 1st class of the trimester and follow it in the classes. - If student(s) are disturbed by any class fellow, staff, teachers or by any other person, it should immediately be brought to the notice of the Head of the Department by student(s) in written form with copies to Registrar Office and to the Executive in charge of the Office of the President and Vice Chancellor. - If the course teacher is depriving student(s) in classroom or in student counseling session as per the course plan, this must immediately be reported by student(s) to the Head of the Department in written form with copies to the Registrar Office and the Executive in charge of the Office of President and Vice Chancellor. - If the class performance of a teacher is below standard and not satisfactory or he/she be late more than 5 minutes to attend the class or leave the class more than 5 minutes earlier, this must be reported by student(s) to the Head of the Department in written form with a copy to the Registrar and the Executive in charge of the Office of President and Vice Chancellor. - Counseling from the course teacher is a basic right of every student. Counseling hour is equal to the class hour i.e. if the class hour is one hour, the counseling hour will be one hour. It is the responsibility of the student to know the counseling hour from the particular course teacher. If the teacher does not counsel students properly, this must immediately be reported by student(s) to the Head of the Department in written form with copies to the Registrar Office and the Executive in charge of the Office of President and Vice Chancellor. - A student must get congenial atmosphere in the exam hall. - Any body must not in any way disturb a student if he/she follows the rules & regulations of exam during the exam period. - If a student feels that he/she didn't obtain proper marks in any subject(s), he/she will be allowed to apply to the Controller of Examinations to scrutinize the exam paper(s). - If a student feels that he/she has been deprived or vindicated or victimized for any reason(s), that should be informed within 7 days from the publication of result, in written to the Controller of Examinations with a copy to the Head of the Department with explanation and evidence if any for adequate justification. Rules & Regulations For Students Academic Rules & Regulations Stamford University Bangladesh is a Non-smoking and Non-political academic institution. Stamford University attaches top priority to maintain a healthy academic environment in the campus. Students of Stamford are expected to cooperate in achieving this goal to enhance their academic achievements, maintaining discipline, keeping the campus neat and clean and being good neighbors and model of good citizenship. The academic rules and regulations regarding studying at Stamford University provide detailed information concerning class attendance, examination guidelines, students' dress, disciplinary matters etc. Students are advised to abide by the rules and regulations strictly. Failure to comply with University rules and regulations does not exempt students from whatever penalties/sanctions they may deserve. Class Attendance A student is expected to attend all the classes in each course. Maximum 20% absence in a course in one trimester may be exempted under emergency situation. It is the responsibility of the student to keep the course teacher informed regarding absence from classes. A student may be dropped from a course for absence from three consecutive classes without sufficient reasons. It would be the responsibility of the course teacher to announce the attendance policy at the beginning of the trimester. The course teacher will determine the manner by which, assignments or examinations missed by students, may be made up. Dress code for the students Every student of Stamford is required to dress himself/herself decently and properly for being a proud student of Stamford University. Students are advised not to enter the university campus or classroom in the following attire: - Without properly pinned ID card - Wearing a sleeveless, hanging t-shirt or chemise - Wearing a wrack, ragged or slashed jeans/trousers - Wearing unclean clothes - Wearing half-pant or scarf - Putting on slippers of ordinary type - Wearing provocative and seductive clothing/dress. Library Code Students are advised to strictly observe the following code of conduct while using the library facility of the University: - Library users must observe silence. All sorts of non-academic discussion and making unnecessary noise must me avoided - Maintain cleanliness inside the library - Keep all the library belongings in order and arrange the chairs before leaving - Smoking, eating and drinking inside the library are strictly prohibited - Handle the books and other reading materials carefully - Students found hiding or stealing books and other library materials, tearing out pages of books/journals would be subject to severe punishment. - Students can borrow or rent book(s) depositing a certain amount of money as security deposit for book(s). At the end of the trimester, security deposit will be returned to the student deducting the rent for the book(s) on the return of the book(s) in good condition. If the book is not in good condition, the security deposit will be adjusted as the price of the book to replace the book for Stamford Library to facilitate other students and that book(s) will be given back to the student. Violation of Discipline Students of Stamford University are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the University. Violation of any 'rules and regulations' by any student may result in committing a major or a minor offense as determined by the Disciplinary Committee of the university. Major Offenses The following activities would be treated as committing major offenses: - Any activity that impedes, hinders, prevents the right of a student to attend classes - Any act that disturbs the peace and order either in class room or in the campus - Carrying any sort of deadly or dangerous weapon or explosive of any kind inside the university - Possessing or taking any sort of drug or seductive product - Bringing intoxicating drinks and /or regulated drugs inside the campus - Willful disregard of authority, disrespect, discourtesy and disobedience to any of the faculty, officials and stuff of the university. - Any sort of physical assault and/or injuries to any one of the university - Possession or distribution of any sort of pornographic materials - Stealing any material of the university - Extortion or unauthorized solicitation - Selling tickets, raffles or lotteries without permission of the university authority - Using disrespectful or indecent language and committing offensive acts - Any activity leading to defamation and maligning - Destruction of university property or properties belonging to any member of the faculty and non-teaching staff - Any sort of forgery or falsification and attempt thereof - Organizing gambling or playing cards inside the class room or campus - Any activity that leads to misrepresentation and dishonesty - Entering the class room and/or offices without proper permission - Planning and organizing activities contrary to the best interest of the University - Violating any clauses of the university circulation/notice - Attachment with any subversive organization - Printing of any document/material using the names and seals of the university - Committing any offense punishable under existing law of the land Minor Offenses The following activities would be treated as committing Minor offenses: - Entering the campus or class room without wearing ID card - Smoking inside the class room or in the campus - Manners unbecoming of a student of the university - Violation of admission and registration procedures and policies - Misuse or improper use of university properties and facilities - Tampering, altering or destroying any part of the notices or posters - Male students entering rest rooms for female and vise versa - Acts of any kind that causes panic and confusion in class room or in the campus - Spitting on the floor, corridors, stairways which may result to dirty condition - Loitering along the corridors, sitting on stairways, gates, exits and passages - Dislocating chairs, tables, boxes, lab equipments, audio-visual equipment and the like from rooms and buildings without permission of the proper authority - The Disciplinary Committee will decide upon any offense/offenses not mentioned above. Execution of Disciplinary Action The Disciplinary Committee shall determine whether an offense committed by any student constitutes a major or minor violation. It shall likewise, determine the appropriate sanction/penalty against students who commit such violation. Any of the following disciplinary actions may be imposed on students considering the nature and gravity of violation of the rules and regulations - Cancellation of a trimester - Temporary suspension from the university - Expulsion from the university Note: The University reserves the right to modify or change the academic rules and regulations as and when necessary. Such rules and regulations would go into force as determined by the proper authorities. Examination Policy: 01. If any student secured F grade in any course or does not appear at both mid-term and trimester final examination, he will be treated as failed in that course. In such case, he/she will have to repeat that course with the following batch. The fee for repeating the course is same as regular course fee. Grade I will be awarded to those students who will fail to appear at the final or mid-trimester examination. I refers that the course is Incomplete. To complete the course students will have to appear at the mid-term or trimester final examination whichever he/she has missed in any subsequent trimester. Final grade will be declared after the completion of the exam. A fee of Tk. 500/= will be charged for appearing at the exam for each course in which students have got an I grade. 02. Credit transfer from other university to Stamford will be decided upon by the Equivalence Committee of the university and this committee will decide how many credit hours will have been accepted by the university. However, Stamford University would neither incorporate in its transcripts the name of the courses accepted as transferred courses nor bring the Grade point of those transferred courses in its CGPA calculation. Only the total number of transferred credit hours will be shown as earned transfer credit hours. CGPA calculation would be made only on the courses completed in Stamford University. To prove the completion of their degrees they have to carry the transcript of the previous institution from where their credit hours have been accepted by Stamford University. 03. Students intending to improve their result will have to apply at the beginning of the trimester to the Controller of Examinations for improvement examination of the course(s) they intend to appear before registering the courses. A student will be permitted to take maximum 2 (two) courses in one trimester for improvement examination. Students will have to follow the course content or syllabus of the course(s) that they will be taking in the particular trimester. No complain will be entertained from the students regarding change in the course content or syllabus. Students may attend the classes if it does not hamper their regular course of study. In that case students will be required to take permission from the administration for attending classes, and the permission can only be given in case of the availability of sitting arrangement in the class room. A fee of Tk. 2000/= for per course has to be paid for improvement examination. For improvement of grade in any course, the students need only to sit for the mid-term and trimester final examination and his previous other marks in class tests /in course/assignment etc. will remain unchanged. Students also have the option to appear either the mid-term or the trimester final examinations. In case of improvement examination, the higher one between previous grade and the grade obtained in the improvement examination would be taken into account. 04. If any student fails to appear at mid-term or trimester final examination, he will not be allowed to appear at those examinations within the same trimester in any special arrangement. Grade I will be awarded to those students, which means the course is Incomplete. 05. Controller Office will publish the trimester final result by hanging it on the university notice board. The result will be published through Letter Grade and Grade Point. No numerical score will be given to the students either in result sheet or in transcript. 06. Transcript and provisional certificates will be provided to the students on the payment of prescribed fees. Transcript fees for a single trimester will be Tk. 100/= and for more than one trimester Tk. 500/= for each. Fees for provisionary certificate will be Tk. 500/=. In that case students will have to apply to the Controller of Examinations along with the payment receipt of prescribed fees at least three days ahead of their requirements. In case of emergency it may be prepared and delivered on the 2nd day but charges will be double. 07. Students can apply to the Controller of Examinations for re-examination/scrutinizing of their answer scripts with payment of a fee Tk. 500.00 (non-refundable) for per course. The application for such re-examination has to be made within 7 days from the publication of the result. The Controller will make necessary arrangement to check the possible arithmetic error in the answer script and score sheet. If any error is detected, the Controller will make necessary correction in the result sheet and will declare the revised result. 08. If any student fails to secure pass mark in the theoretical part of a course but secure pass mark in sessional, he will be considered pass in sessional and need not re-take the sessional examination in the subsequent trimester. In the same way, if any student fails to secure pass marks in the sessional part of the course but secure pass marks in theoretical part, he will be considered pass in theoretical part and need not re-take the theoretical examination in the subsequent trimester. 09. No student will be allowed to appear at the mid-term final and trimester final examination without clearing their dues with the university. 10. Students must produce their admit cards in the examination hall. They are required to collect their admit cards at least two days before the examination starts. Admit cards will be issued to those only who will have their accounts clearance. 11. Any student with late admission will be entitled to have his/her percentage counted from the date he/she starts attending classes and marks on attendance will be awarded on pro-rata basis. 12. No consolidated score or break-up of the score will be provided to the students. Examination Guidelines for Students The following Examination Rules should be strictly observed during the examination: - Wear your ID card properly - Show your admit card containing the names of courses you are going to sit for the examination. No one will be allowed to sit for the examination without admit card - Be sure that the invigilator signs the script during the examination period - Put all materials (bags, books, khatas, etc.) except examination documents in the front part of the room - Students who come late may be allowed to sit for examination provided they do not ask for any extra time. But no student will be allowed in the 2nd hour of the examination or after passing the 1st hour of the examination. - Leaving the examination room during 1st hour of examination is not allowed. Students are allowed to leave examination room once for maximum five minutes in the second hour of the examination. - Keep your mobile phone off during the examination period - Ensure your signature in the attendance sheet for each examination. - Be sure that additional script(s) is being attached to the main script The following would be treated as 'adopting unfair means' during an examination: - Communicating with fellow students in the examination hall - Having a seat different from the seat plan - Copying from other students' script/report - Copying from desk, scale, palm or from other incriminating documents - Possession of any incriminating document whether used or not - Change of script or question paper with fellow students - Change of the cover page or any inside page of the script - Writing on the question paper and admit card - Unruly behavior, which disrupt the examination environment - Any sort of unruly attitude to or behavior with the invigilators/teachers - False personification in the examination hall - Any approach in direct or indirect form to influence the teacher for grade If a student is found adopting any sort of unfair means in the examination hall, his offense would be punishable and executed either by the Invigilator/Examiner in the examination hall or through 'Disciplinary Committee', on the basis of report given by the Invigilator/Examiner. The 'in hall' punishments could be of any of the following types - Warning by the Invigilators/ Examiners - Deduction of obtained marks - Holding of the examination scripts for certain time - Expulsion from the examination hall - Cancellation of certain answer in the script The disciplinary punishment could be any of the following types: - Cancellation of the whole examination - Temporary suspension from the program - Imposition of fine - Dismissal from the program - Expulsion from the program/university | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
