CALL FOR PAPER 

The Annual Meeting of Business and Applied Sciences Institute for Bangladesh (BASIB) will be held at Holiday Inn-Philadelphia/Cherry Hill during July 31-August 1, 2009. Papers, abstracts of paper for presentation, proposals for panel discussion and volunteers to serve as session chairs, track chairs are invited from all areas of Business and Applied Sciences under the Tracks listed below.  The deadline for submission of abstracts or proposals is April 20, 2009. Acceptance letter will be sent within a month of submission. The completed paper may be submitted any time until June 15, 2009. Volunteers interested to serve as a track Chair, session Chair, a reviewer and/or discussant should contact the Program Chair as soon as possible.

Mission Statement

BASIB is a professional association of scholars and practitioners in the fields of business, social, natural, behavioral, medical sciences, engineering and technology. It is a professional forum of the scholars and professionals who demonstrate a serious interest on issues and practices relevant to Bangladesh or Bangladeshi organizations.  By bringing scholars, practitioners and expert views and scholarly papers in the annual conference events, proceedings and refereed journal, BASIB seeks to serve as a clearing house for information and new ideas on technology transfers, strategic business alliances, and policy imperatives.   The Institute commits to make its refereed journal and proceedings available online for widespread and instant dissemination. 

Our meetings shall emphasize professionalism, mutual respect and collegiality in a cordial environment. Discussions and comments shall have “developmental” and positive approaches toward continuous learning and improvement.  All papers and abstracts will be reviewed by appropriate track chairs, assigned reviewers and the program chair.  Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. The deadline for Proceedings submission is July 1, 2009. Submit your paper, paper proposal, abstract to amarline@gmail.com.Only electronic submission in Word file is accepted.  BASIB also intends to publish a peer-reviewed e-journal: Journal of Bangladesh Business and Applied Sciences (JBBAS). All full papers presented at the Annual Conference will qualify for review and publication in the refereed journal.  The first issue of Volume 1 will be scheduled to be published in spring 2010. Depending on the quality of papers presented, each issue of the journal will be devoted to specific theme category of disciplines (i.e. Business, IT and Engineering, Applied Social Sciences, Applied Natural and Medical Sciences) Efforts to list the journal in Cabell directory will be made and the copyrights for the journal will be obtained.

Paper/Abstract Submission: To submit a proposal, provide a complete paper or an abstract with at least 500 words with the title of the paper, name(s), addresses, telephone numbers and email address, appropriate Track to the Program Chair. Paper proposals and abstracts should address the following criteria: (1) Originality—does the paper contain significant new information, ideas, model appropriate to the mission? (2) Relationship to the literature-does the paper or proposal show adequate understanding of the available literature? (3) Methodology—Is the paper built on an appropriate research design and method? (4) Results-do they contain implications for the discipline and or Bangladesh? All proposals will be reviewed. TheBest Paper” of each track will be recognized in the Conference Proceedings and Annual Banquet. The Best Papers may be submitted for review and publication in JBBAS.

Proposal for a Panel (for Practitioners only-90 minute session): Submit 300-500 words with title, proposed track, names and addresses of Chair, names addresses of panelists.  Address what, why, and so what (i.e. implications for Bangladesh) in the proposal.  The Chair must take the responsibility of appointing a voluntary note taker to summarize the discussion for publication in the proceeding. 

Registration and Hotel Room Reservation: Authors of accepted papers, abstracts, or panel proposals will be required to register by May 25, 2009.  The registration fee for presenters with institutional affiliation is $300 and for attendees, and students $150 if paid by May 25, 2009. Participants registering after the deadline will be charged $100 late fee.  Registration fee for participants from Bangladesh may be partially waived only under special circumstances.   If applicable, there will be a Second Paper Fee of $100.00 for an additional paper to be presented by the same author. No individual author may submit more than two papers or proposals. The registration fee will cover the conference material (name badge; the publication fee in Conference Proceedings, admission to all conference sessions and activities, tea/coffee breaks, continental breakfast, conference banquet and cultural program on Saturday (night) and a reception on the Friday night (with a cultural program). A block of hotel rooms will be available at a special rate of $119 per night until June 20, 2009. Rooms may be available after this date at the regular hotel rates.
