Prof. Quazi Abdul Mannan
Dean & Chairman
Department of Journalism and Media Studies

A Fulbright Scholar, Quazi Abdul Mannan is a former Professor of the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism, Dhaka University. He is currently Chairman of the Department of Journalism & Media Studies and Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Stamford University Bangladesh. He joined Stamford University in 2008. Before joining Dhaka University in 1974, he served as a Reporter with the Pakistan and Bangladesh Observer.

Prof. Mannan holds B.A Honors and M.A Degree in Economics, Post Graduate Diploma & M.A in Journalism from Dhaka University. He received further education and attended Post Graduate Media Studies Courses at Oslo University, Norway on a NORAD Scholarship (1997). He Attended the American Summer Institute, featuring American Media and Society at the New School University for Social Research, New York on a US Government scholarship (1998). He also attended an Advanced Journalism course in India on a Thompson Foundation Scholarship in the UK. (1973). Prof. Mannan received the prestigious senior Fulbright Scholarship and was a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Speech & Communications Studies, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, USA (2005 - 2006).

Beyond teaching, Prof. Mannan served as Public Affairs Manager of a Government Corporation in the State of Sabah, Malaysia for 6 years. He also served as BRAC’s Public Affairs Manager for 2 and a half years. Prof. Mannan was Director Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences, Dhaka University and Member Governing Body, Press Institute Bangladesh. He also served as Chairman of the Institute’s Finance Committee. He was a question setter and examiner of the Public Service Commission and occasionally used to sit on the Commission’s Viva Board. He was a Guest Lecturer at the National Defense College and Defense Services Staff College.

Professor Mannan served as a Communication Specialist for a number of international agencies including The Asian Development Bank (ADB) & South Asia Partnership Bangladesh, an international NGO. He served as Editor of ‘Perspective in Social Sciences’, a research journal of the Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences and Editor of ‘Stamford Journal of Media Communications & Culture’.
