Prof. Dr. B .C. Basak
Dean
Department of Civil Engineering

Prof. Dr. B. C. Basak is currently holding the respected position of Dean, Faculty of Engineering at Stamford University Bangladesh. He also served as the honorable Chairman of the department of Civil Engineering of this university from year 2009 to 2022.  He is also the Member of the Academic Council in Stamford University Bangladesh. Prof. Basak is specialized in the field of Water Resources Engineering with further concentration in CAD of Geo-Hydraulic Structures. His other fields of interest include mathematical modelling of water resources systems, alluvial canal design, seepage and stability of embankment dam.

 

After Graduation , Prof. Basak started his career as Assistant Engineer of BADC in November 1978. He then joined Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission as Scientific Officer in April 1979. In 1980, he went to I.I.T., Roorkee, India to conduct his Masters in Civil Engineering. In 1985 he joined as Senior Scientific Officer in Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture. Later, in 1992, he obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from I.I.T, Roorkee, India.

 

In 1986, he joined Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering and left there as Selection-Grade Professor in Civil Engineering in 2011. His other administrative experiences include holding the position of Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering, DUET and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, DUET. He was also the Director (Student’s Welfare), Member of the Academic Council and Provost, Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall of DUET back in 2004, 1993 and 1992 respectively.

 

Prof. Basak was the Vice-Chairman, Agril. Engineering Division, Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) from 2000 to 2001. He was also the Central Council Member, Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) from 2002 to 2003. He served as the Vice-Chairman, Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Gazipur Center from 2004 to 2005. He is a Life Fellow of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and Life Member of Indian Water Resources Society.

 

Prof. Basak published widely in different international and national peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and wrote book chapters. He got training on various training courses and workshops. The list of his attended training courses is given below:

Training Course on The Application of Nuclear Techniques in Agricultural Research organized by Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, January 1985.
