Thesis
I am passionate about research in molecular microbiology and teaching. I completed both undergraduate and postgraduate degree from the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and joined reputed research organization, icddr,b – a Center of Excellence in Microbiology Research in Bangladesh. I completed my higher studies from the University of Westminster, London, UK in 2012 with an award of Ph. D. with Cavendish Research Scholarship. I also availed the opportunity to complete a “Post Graduate Certificate in Special Study in Supporting Learning” (PGCertSSL) from the same university. With the inspiration from my Ph. D. supervisor (Dr. Patrick Kimmitt), I used to take part in lecture sessions on several occasions in his presence. I also prepared a number of lecture materials used for online teaching on a module “Infection and Immunity” at the University of Westminster, UK. This involved preparation of lecture contents as well as tutorials. All along my Ph.D. work, I was actively involved in supporting my supervisor designing projects, student demonstration, laboratory training, data analysis and preparation of reports for undergraduate, postgraduate and summer students. After completion of my Ph.D., I rejoined at Stamford University Bangladesh (SUB) where I am now engaged full-time in teaching, research and administrative responsibilities. I am also in charge of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the capacity of Director. This was a subproject of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) jointly funded by the World Bank, Ministry of Education of Bangladesh and Stamford University Bangladesh. I want to further enhance my career through higher research in microbial genomics, bioinformatics, antibiotic resistance and other relevant fields where funding and scopes are available, attending international conferences and publishing findings in reputed journals.
Professional experience
Additional responsibility: (i) Director IQAC, SUB from 16 March 2017 to date, (ii) Editor, Stamford Journal of Microbiology from July 2019 to date
I have been actively involved as a full-time teacher in teaching theory, practical classes and project work at the undergraduate level. In general, I have to cover 12-15 credit hours of lectures and practical classes every week in each trimester as per the academic calendar. As part of teaching requirements, I am involved in the assessment of theory, practical modules, and seminars assigned to me. An oral assessment for all students is done each year by a committee of teachers and I am usually one of them. I also undertake both B.Sc. and M.Sc. research students allocated each trimester and supervise their research and publication and presentation of their findings in conferences and journals. I took a number of courses at undergraduate level as per the need of the Department e.g. Basic Microbial Genetics (MBO 315), Microbial Molecular Genetics (MBO 325), Genetic Engineering (MBO 421), Biochemistry and Cellular Biology (MBO 235), Enzymology (MBO 423), Basic Techniques in Microbiology (MBO232), Physiology I & II (MBO 111, MBO 125), Pharmaceutical Microbiology (MBO 133), Microbial Chemistry (MBO 211), Environmental Microbiology (MBO 215), General Microbiology I & II (MBO 113 & 233), Medical Microbiology II (MBO 333), Food Microbiology (MBO 411), Fermentation Technology (MBO426). I also took two courses at postgraduate level as per the requirement of the Department e.g. Genomics and Bioinformatics (MPG 506), Bacterial Pathogenesis and Molecular Epidemiology (MPG 507).
