Accounting and Information Systems

Accounting, as the language of business, plays imperative role in the modern business environment by supplying information required for many key decisions made by the top management team. Even in the digitalized environment and in the face of Fourth Industrial Revolution, the role of relevant, reliable, and real time financial information has increased many folds. Established in 2005, the Accounting & Information Systems Discipline of Stamford University Bangladesh has been working to produce accounting graduates with capability to produce and supply information required by top management team.
Currently, the Discipline offers major in both the undergraduate and graduate study programs. A team of 8 highly qualified and dedicated faculty members having PhD degrees and professional certifications are working within the Discipline to furnish students with up to date knowledge and skills required to meet the information needs of top management team and other stakeholders in the modern business environment. Moreover, the Discipline maintains a persistent relationship with the two professional accounting bodies of the country to facilitate the graduates of the Discipline trouble-free admission and other waiver facilities offered by those professional institutions. Additionally, the Discipline arranges various training programs on accounting software like Tally (ERP), arranges workshop and seminars on emerging and significant issues to enable graduates of the Discipline to compete in the competitive job markets.

Finance

“Price is what you pay; value is what you get” — a wise quote from Warren Buffett that teaches us an important lesson: just because something is discounted, or part of a deal, it doesn’t mean it’s worth the asking price. Finance teaches you the difference between price and value. In today’s world and economy, everybody depends on financial strategies and principles. From small start-ups to large corporations, from corner shops to international supermarket chains, from law firms to insurance companies — they all need Finance and are willing to pay top-dollar for experts in this field. The financial industry is constantly developing and changing in ways nobody could have predicted even a decade ago. Right now, for example, the latest trend is financial technology or fintech. A few years ago, cryptocurrencies were all the rage. And they’re still used and backed by numerous people, in spite of losing from their initial hype and popularity. Whether the next financial innovation will be a universal basic income, a global digital currency, or something no one has created yet, one thing is clear: you won’t get bored while studying and working in Finance. It is one of the areas of our society whose evolution is strongly connected to the development of new technologies, and that means improvements are inevitable.
The Finance discipline in Stamford University Bangladesh has been started its academic activities in 2002 at beginning period of the university under the Department of Business Administration. The aim of this discipline is to produce graduates who exhibit a strong knowledge base and technical competency in finance. The discipline offers major in Finance in BBA program as well as MBA program for the students to develop knowledge and understanding of the theoretical concepts, which are required in the practical circumstances.
The vision of the Finance discipline is to develop skilled human resource with specialized education and training in finance. Since its inception, this discipline has been committed to catering to the needs of modern business world and has been producing executives and trained manpower with strong skills in finance. From the very beginning, Finance has been devoted to academic excellence and uncompromising standard for which it has earned reputation.
In the Discipline of Finance approximately 11 full-time highly qualified and dedicated faculty members are contributing teaching in both BBA and MBA program. Finance Faculty members are actively engaged in research and published their research works in the reputed national and international research journals. In addition to their commitments for teaching and research activities, faculty members also play an important role in the affairs of the university and community as a whole. The expertise of teaching staff, research activities and dynamic curriculum has made the Finance discipline a unique institution in and outside the University.


Discipline of Finance helps students analyze financing problems happening around the world in various different dimensions. This is further ensured by emphasizing teaching with case studies specific to various nationally and internationally-recognized firms. Moreover, courses are packaged such that students are equipped with knowledge of the cutting-edge research in finance as well as practical work in the field through field visits, study tours, simulated portfolio investment as well as internships. Within the classroom, Finance offers a wide range of classes taught by the experienced and versatile faculties in the field of Investment, Valuation, Corporate Finance, Banking and International Finance. Members of the Finance discipline blend their professional experience with outstanding research and commitment to their students.
The main learning outcome of this discipline to analysis financial information using the instruments and mechanisms available to solve financial problems and apply relevant soft skills and technical skills to work independently and collaborate in processing and communicating financial issues.

Human Resource Management

The Discipline of Human Resource Management (HRM) is well-known as one of the significant parts of the Department of Business Administration of Stamford University Bangladesh from its inception in 2002 after being accredited and approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). The main objective of the discipline of HRM is to provide high quality theoretical, applied, pertinent, and professional knowledge and skills that strengthen the insights and capability of the graduates for their employment in the diverse organizational settings. The discipline also aims to prepare the graduates to meet the challenges of a knowledge economy and the distinctive needs of key stakeholder groups.
The Department of Business Administration offers BBA and MBA degrees with HRM concentration at the graduate and post-graduate levels. The courses and the detailed contents of the courses have been engrossed from the standpoints of HEQEP (Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project) initiatives of UGC and SDG-4 (Quality Education). The emphasis has been given more on the very sensible combination of Quality Education, and graduate insights and capabilities to build better organization during this epoch of IR 4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution). The pragmatism of teaching learning methods has widely and wisely been dedicated to address these substantial ranges of contemporary changes that may affect organizations.
The discipline holds strong industry-academia initiatives that help in planning and implementing several co-curricular activities such as industrial tour, seminar, and workshop to strengthen the insights of students into the industry. The discipline has been continuing its initiatives to blend academic and co-curricular activities to excel the sensible knowledge and skills, and responsible attitudes that impact the graduates, and their society.

Marketing

Marketing matters now more than ever in today's innovation-fueled marketplace. It’s time to claim marketing as a key driver of business. Marketing focuses on customer needs and developing loyal relationships with them. Marketing creates revenue options, build and maintain company reputation, Track trends and monitor competition. Therefore, Marketing aids in providing Insights about business which drives ultimate economic development and corporate performance.
In the Marketing Discipline approximately 12 full-time highly qualified and dedicated faculty members are contributing teaching in both BBA and MBA program. More than one third of the faculty members obtained their respective PhD degree from reputed universities of home and abroad. They have significant research and publication works in world reputed business and marketing journals. Teachers are dedicated to develop their academic careers as well as contributing to development of students’ all round quality. All faculty members are committed to close engagements with students to improve their intellectual curiosity and motivation for learning.

At present, marketing is about developing innovative solutions to customer problems profitably by maintaining ethical standards. The curriculum and programs of Marketing Discipline are designed and upgraded to provide students necessary techniques, tools and skills they need to be customer-oriented business leaders. The initiatives of co-curriculum and extra-curriculum activities of this Discipline is contributing to explore and enhance full potentiality of students and make them responsible citizens of the nation.
