The journey of the Japanese Language Department of the Stamford University Bangladesh, was started in 2009. It started under the supervision of Professor Emeritus Takashi Uemura of a renowned university in Japan. From the beginning until today, the teaching and other activities of the department have been conducted under the supervision of a Japanese and a Bangladeshi teacher. The Japanese teacher Mr. Kojima Masao has been serving as the head of the department. A fluent speaker in Bengali, Mr. Kojima Masao is recognized as the most experienced and best Japanese language teacher in Bangladesh. Another teacher of the department is Ms. Mehrabul Ferdausi Snigdha.She completed her Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Dhaka University while she was studying Japanese language. She joined as a teacher out of her own interest and love for Japanese language and culture. She is currently the lone female teacher of Japanese language at university level in Bangladesh. She previously participated in short-term and long-term teachers’ training and self-study programs in Japan after getting scholarship from the Japan Foundation. Besides, she is also participating in online training courses organized by the Japan Foundation.Japanese language teachers serve as observers during teachers’ training workshops organized by the Japanese Embassy and Japan Foundation in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Currently, the faculty members of this department at Stamford University are conducting a Japanese language education program for JDS Fellows through Jica's ‘JICE’ project.Students are admitted to the Japanese language department at Stamford twice a year (January-June, and July-December). Two basic and advanced courses are being conducted by the Japanese language department from the start; but currently, one more practical course has been added. Each course of 150 hours is held three days a week. The Basic course is suitable for JLPT N5 and the Advanced course is suitable for JLPT N4 and NAT test. The new course is designed to suit JLPT N3. The course-fee here is the lowest at any university or institution of Bangladesh.

So far, more than 500 students from this department of Stamford University have successfully completed the Japanese language courses. The students who passed from this department later studied at various language schools of Japan and have also working with reputed institutions of Japan. The students of this department also got the opportunity to travel to Japan for study tours sponsored by the Japanese government. The teachers of the department assist the students who get first class in finding opportunities for higher education in Japan.

A teacher-student exchange program exists between the Stamford University Bangladesh and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. This collaborative program is moderated by the Japanese Language Department.

The department also organizes Japanese film festivals and education seminars on Japanese language and culture. Students and teachers of this department regularly participate in various cultural events organized by the Japanese Embassy and the Japan Foundation in Dhaka.

২০০৯ সালে জাপানী ভাষা বিভাগের যাত্রা শুরু । জাপানের নামকরা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়য়ের এমিরেটাস অধ্যাপক তাকাশি উয়েমুরার তত্ত্বাবধানে এই বিভাগের যাত্রা শুরু। শুরু থেকে আজ পর্যন্ত একজন জাপানী ও একজন বাংলাদেশী শিক্ষকের তত্ত্বাবধানে বিভাগের পাঠদান ও অন্যান্য কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হয়ে আসছে ।  বিভাগীয় প্রধান হিসাবে জাপানী শিক্ষক জনাব কোজিমা মাসাও দায়িত্ব পালন করে আসছেন। সাবলীল বাংলাভাষী জনাব কোজিমা মাসাও বাংলাদেশে জাপানী ভাষার শিক্ষকদের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে অভিজ্ঞ ও সবচেয়ে ভালো বলে সমাদৃত । বিভাগের অপর শিক্ষিকা মেহরাবুল ফেরদাউসী স্নিগ্ধা; ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের দর্শন বিভাগ মাস্টার্স সম্পন্ন করেন,  পাশাপাশি জাপানী ভাষা লেখাপড়া করে জাপানী ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ে নিজস্ব আগ্রহ ও ভালোবাসা থেকে শিক্ষক হিসাবে যোগদান করেন। তিনি বাংলাদেশের জাপানী ভাষার একমাত্র নারী শিক্ষিকা,যিনি জাপান ফাউন্ডেশনের বৃত্তিতে জাপানে শর্ট টার্ম ও লং টার্ম টিচার্স ট্রেনিং ও সেলফ স্টাডি প্রোগ্রামগুলোতে  অংশ নিয়েছেন । এছাড়া জাপান ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজিত অনলাইন  প্রশিক্ষণ গুলোতেও অংশগ্রহণ করছেন।

জাপানী ভাষার শিক্ষকবৃন্দ জাপানী দূতাবাস ও জাপান ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজিত শিক্ষক প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মশালায় অবজারভার হিসাবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন।

বর্তমানে এই বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ জাইকা র প্রজেক্ট JICE' এর মাধ্যমে জে ডি এস ফেলোদের জন্য জাপানী ভাষা শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনায় রয়েছেন।

জাপানী ভাষা বিভাগে বছরে দুইবার (জানু-জুন,জুলাই-ডিসে) ছাত্র-ছাত্রী ভর্তি নেয়া হয়। শুরু থেকে জাপানী ভাষা বিভাগে বেসিক ও অ্যাডভ্যান্স ২টি কোর্স করানো হলেও বর্তমানে ব্যবহারিক আরও একটি কোর্স শুরু হয়েছে ।১৫০ ঘন্টার প্রতিটি কোর্স  সপ্তাহে তিন দিন হয়ে থাকে। বেসিক কোর্সটি JLPT N5 ও  অ্যাডভ্যান্স কোর্স টি  JLPT N4 এবং NAT টেষ্টের উপযোগী। নতুন কোর্সটি JLPT N3 উপযোগী করে সাজানো হয়েছে।বাংলাদেশের যেকোনো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় / প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে এখানকার কোর্স ফি সবচেয়ে কম। 

স্টামফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বাংলাদেশ-এর এই বিভাগ থেকে এ পর্যন্ত প্রায় ৫০০ এর অধিক ছাত্র-ছাত্রী সফলতার সাথে জাপানী ভাষার কোর্সটি সম্পন্ন করেছে। এ বিভাগের উত্তীর্ণ ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা জাপানের বিভিন্ন ল্যাংগুয়েজ স্কুলে পড়াশুনা ও ভালো প্রতিষ্ঠানে সুনামের সাথে চাকুরী করছে । এ  বিভাগের ছাত্ররা জাপান সরকারের খরচে শিক্ষা সফরে জাপান ভ্রমনের সুযোগ পেয়েছে । এই বিভাগের প্রথম শ্রেণী প্রাপ্ত ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের জাপানে উচ্চ শিক্ষায় সুযোগের ব্যাপারে বিভাগের শিক্ষকেরা সহযোগিতা করে থাকেন।

স্টাম ফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বাংলাদেশ ও টোকিও ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ এগ্রিকালচার এন্ড টেকনোলোজী মধ্যে একটি টিচার্স-স্টুডেন্ট একচেঞ্জ প্রোগ্রাম রয়েছে। এই কলাবরেশন প্রোগ্রামটি জাপানী ভাষা বিভাগই মধ্যস্ততা করে থাকে।
এই বিভাগটি ফিল্মফেস্টিভাল ও এডুকেশন সেমিনারের আয়োজন করে থাকে । এই বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রী-শিক্ষকবৃন্দ জাপানী দূতাবাস ও জাপান ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজিত বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে নিয়মিত অংশ নেয়।

The Japanese Language course run by Stamford university Bangladesh is aimed at university and college students as well as service holders interested in going to Japan for the purpose of education or job in the future. Its objectives and strategies include: teaching the elementary rules and principles of the Japanese language; shedding light on Japanese culture, society, social custom, rights and rituals, lifestyle, manners, speech and etiquettes etc.

স্টামফোর্ড ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশ কর্তৃক পরিচালিত জাপানী ভাষা কোর্সটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীদের পাশাপাশি ভবিষ্যতে শিক্ষা বা চাকরির উদ্দেশ্যে জাপানে যেতে আগ্রহীদের জন্য। এর উদ্দেশ্য এবং পদ্ধতিগুলির মধ্যে রয়েছে: জাপানী ভাষার প্রাথমিক নিয়ম এবং নীতিগুলি শেখানো; জাপানী   সংস্কৃতি, সমাজ, সামাজিক প্রথা, আচার-অনুষ্ঠান, জীবনধারা, আচার-ব্যবহার, বক্তব্য এবং শিষ্টাচার ইত্যাদির উপর আলোকপাত করা।
