Samiya Asadi

SamiyaAsadihas been serving Stamford University Bangladesh as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies. Shejoined Stamford University Bangladesh in 2011 as a Lecturer and was promoted as Assistant Professor in 2015. Before joining SUB,she worked for more than three years (2005-2009)as a Journalist.She started her career as a Staff Reporter for “Binodon” whicha publication of the Ittefaq Group.Simultaneously,she contributed to various subsidiary pages named Anondobinodon, Torun Kontho, Korchaof Daily Ittefaq. She took charge as the Sub-Editorof Korcahaa Lifestyle page of The Daily Ittefaq in 2007. 

She obtained BSS(Honors) and MSS Degree from Dhaka University in Mass Communication and Journalism Department. Furthermore, she participated in different workshops and training like Gender and Masculinity, Advanced Public Affairs Reporting, Faculty Skill Development under IQAC,and so on.Moreover,she has completed a two-month-long internship Program at International Television (NTV).

Ms. Samiyahas a keen interest in research and till now published 7unique research articles on film, communication, and media in both Bangla and English language-refereed journals. She attended two International &one National Conference with paper. Being a communication enthusiast, Ms. Samiya has a keen interest in different social media specially in Facebook &Linkedin. She believes student learning is maximum when they become engaged &for a better understanding of the theory, she developed a practical learning style using technology.

 

Workshop & Achievements

§  A workshop on Fact-Checking under the project of MRDI, Internews & USAID in 2023.

 

  • A workshop on Visual and Media Anthropology was organized by the Department of Anthropology, University of Dhaka, in May 2016.

 

  • A workshop on Faculty Development conducted by Professor Zakir Hossain Ph.D. of the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. and organized by Stamford University Bangladesh, January 2013.

 

  • completed a two-month-long internship Program at International Television (NTV) in 2004.

 

  • Induction training as a News presenter at RTV, 2005.

 

  • Executive member of CJEN (Communication and Journalism Educator’s Network) Bangladesh.
