Dr. Zerin received Ph.D. degree from Soonchunhyang University, South Korea in August 2013. She served as a teaching assistant during the period of her doctoral program. Following her Ph.D., she joined as a postdoctoral researcher at the same university from September 2013 to December 2015. Her post-doctoral period of research focused on understanding the molecular mechanism of methanol and its metabolites in poisoning, and additives (as surfactants) rather than the major active ingredients are responsible for specific pesticide poisoning. She had experiences with the antioxidant effects of phytochemicals relating to nrf-2 on cytoprotection and oxidative stress. Besides, she was also involved in mycobacteriology research. During her Ph.D. and postdoctoral period of research, she was obliged to teach undergraduate students extensively about the lab environment, research techniques, instrument handling, how to write a manuscript for publication, etc. Moreover, she had comprehensive experiences in cell biology, molecular toxicology, microbiology, and mycobacteriology-oriented fields. Her laboratory experiences include DNA/RNA/Protein extraction and quantification, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, Conventional and Real-time PCR, Agarose Gel electrophoresis, Apoptosis assay by FACS analysis, Immunocytochemistry by confocal microscopy/fluorescent microscopy, Adipogenesis, Gene silencing by siRNA transfection, Animal (mouse and rat) handling, splenocyte collection, cloning, etc. She had almost 20 publications; most of them were in international peer-reviewed journals including well-reputed toxicology-oriented journals as Toxicology Letter and Toxicology in Vitro.
Dr. Zerin served in the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR’B) for more than one year in the LLAMA project and RotaRix vaccine project as a research officer.
Dr. Zerin completed her B.Sc. and M.S. in Microbiology from Dhaka University in the year 2006 and 2008, respectively. Her M.S. thesis work was accomplished at the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) on the ‘characterization of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis and their prevalence of different phylogenetic clades and sensitivity to second-line anti-tuberculosis Drugs’.
