Department of Film and Media Studies Organizes Freshers’ Orientation Program

The Department of Film and Media Studies of Stamford University Bangladesh organized a Freshers’ Orientation Program for the students of FLM 84–86 batches on 13 May 2026 at the Stamford Auditorium.
The program was attended by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh, Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber, as the Chief Guest.
Special guests included Professor Dr. Mohammad Jeaul Hasan, Treasurer of Stamford University Bangladesh; Professor Quazi Abdul Mannan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Mohammad Abdul Matin, Registrar of Stamford University Bangladesh and Professor Dr. Matin Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Film and Media Studies.
Faculty members of the Department of Film and Media Studies were also present at the program.
The main session of the Freshers’ Orientation Program began with a performance by FLM 84 batch student Robindronath Roy. As part of the ceremony, the teachers of the department warmly welcomed the freshers with flowers. The welcome speech was delivered by Ferdous Alam Siddique, Coordinator and Assistant Professor of the Department of Film and Media Studies.
On behalf of the alumni, Vice Chancellor Award recipient Rifat Sarker Rohan delivered an inspirational speech for the newly admitted students. Later, Md. Alauddin spoke on behalf of the freshers.
During the orientation session, the distinguished guests delivered inspiring speeches and encouraged the newly admitted students to pursue creativity, academic excellence and responsible media practices. The speakers emphasized the importance of storytelling, innovation and ethical media engagement in contemporary society.
Addressing the students, Chief Guest Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber said that films can represent history and teach valuable lessons about life. He also spoke about the importance of character, values and responsibility among students.
The concluding speech of the program was delivered by Professor Dr. Matin Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Film and Media Studies.
The Freshers’ Orientation Program was hosted by department student and news presenter Rashed Ryhan.
After a short break, a colorful cultural program was organized where students from both fresher and senior batches performed music, dance, and other cultural activities. The vibrant performances added enthusiasm and celebration to the event and reflected the creative spirit of the Department of Film and Media Studies.
