Stamford University Bangladesh held its Freshman Orientation for the 87th batch of the Summer 2026 semester on Wednesday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
The day-long programme began at 9:00am and continued until 3:00pm, bringing together newly admitted students, university officials and distinguished guests to mark the beginning of the students’ academic journey.
Abdul Khalek, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh, attended the event as the chief guest. Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and Professor Dr Farhanaz Firoz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Stamford University Bangladesh, were also present as guests. The programme was chaired by Professor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber, Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh.
Addressing the freshmen, Abdul Khalek said the purpose of higher education extended far beyond earning a degree and should help students develop into responsible citizens equipped with knowledge, skills, ethical values and a strong sense of patriotism.
“The younger generation will lead the Bangladesh of tomorrow. Alongside modern knowledge and technology, students must embrace humanitarian values, independent thinking and patriotism,” he said.
He also praised Stamford University Bangladesh for its longstanding contribution to higher education and expressed the hope that its students would contribute not only to education and research but also to the wider development of society and the country.
Speaking as a special guest, Rezauddin Stalin highlighted the close relationship between education and culture. He said cultural engagement played an important role in shaping students into well-rounded individuals and praised the participation of Stamford students in the cultural programme.
Professor Dr Farhanaz Firoz welcomed the new students and encouraged them to dream ambitiously and work consistently towards achieving their goals.
“Students must have the courage to dream and the determination to turn those dreams into reality. With the support of teachers, university officials and guardians, we believe they will be able to reach their desired goals,” she said.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber told the freshmen that entering university marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
He said Stamford University Bangladesh placed equal emphasis on academic knowledge, practical skills, values and leadership development.
“In today’s world, formal education alone is not enough. Students must develop technological competence, a research-oriented mindset, creativity and humanitarian values. You will be the future leaders of society and the nation, and you must begin preparing yourselves now to become capable and responsible citizens,” he said.
Students of the 87th batch were also introduced to the university’s academic programmes, regulations, facilities and co-curricular opportunities during the orientation.
The second half of the programme featured a cultural show performed by Stamford University students. Songs, dances and other performances created a festive atmosphere at the National Theatre Hall, with freshmen enthusiastically taking part in the celebrations.
The day-long orientation concluded with strong participation from the newly admitted students. The programme aimed to familiarise them with university life while encouraging interaction, friendship and a sense of belonging as they begin their academic journey at Stamford University Bangladesh.
