Stamford University Hosts Prof. Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed Memorial Case Study Competition

Dhaka, August 20, 2026: Stamford University Bangladesh hosted the Prof. Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed Memorial Intra-University Case Study Competition 2026 at the university auditorium on Thursday. The competition was jointly organized by the Stamford Business Forum (SBF) l and the Stamford University Economics Forum (SUEF).

The competition was organized in memory of Professor Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed,a distinguished member of the Business Faculty of the University of Dhaka and one of the founding figures and also served as Dean of the university's Business Administration Department of Stamford University Bangladesh.

The competition began on August 1, with 15 teams participating in the preliminary round. Following an assessment conducted through Google Classroom, five teams qualified for the Grand Finale.

The final round featured a unique case-solving format. The cases were distributed among the finalist teams through a lottery. Each team was given one hour and 30 minutes to analyze its assigned case and develop a strategic solution. The teams then presented their analyses before the audience and a four-member judging panel.

The event was inaugurated with addresses from the conveners of the two forums, along with Mohammad Nazmul Huq, Head of the Marketing Discipline, and Professor Dr. Abdus Sattar, Chairman of the Department of Economics.

Professor Dr. Jinnat Ara Begum also shared her experience and words of encouragement with the participants during the program.

Before the judging process began, Professor Dr. Farahnaz Firoz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, attended the event and spoke about the importance of case-based learning. She emphasized the value of practicing case studies within academic settings to help students prepare for real-world challenges.

The judging panel included two external industry professionals and two internal academic judges. The external judges were Tashdik Habib, Chairman of Sukher Khamar Agro Ltd., and Rafe Sadnan Adel, Head of Media Relations and Communication at Abul Khair Group. The internal judges were Dr. Ishrat Jahan Tania, Associate Professor of Marketing, Department of Business Administration, and Dr. Omar Faruq, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics.

A Poster Exhibition featuring the work of all 15 teams from the preliminary round was another major attraction of the event. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sharif Nafe As-Saber led the exhibition visit, accompanied by Dean Professor Dr. Mohammad Jeaul Hasan, Registrar Abdul Matin, faculty members, judges, and other guests. The Vice-Chancellor interacted with the participants, asked questions about their projects, and exchanged views with them.

In his remarks, Professor Dr. Sharif Nafe As-Saber said that the initiative was only the beginning and emphasized the need to expand such competitions beyond the intra-university level. He expressed his vision of organizing an inter-university case competition in Bangladesh in the future.

Following the assessment, Team ACHAR emerged as the champion. The team comprised Ferdeen Khan, Mehnaz Milad and Hafsa Akhter Sumaiya and worked on the case “Sumit Group and Bangladesh's Capacity Payment Debate.” The champion team received Tk. 5,000 in prize money and a souvenir.

Team TopTier, comprising Md. Eachin Arafat, Sohana Islam Samia and Rukaiya Abtahi, secured the first runner-up position with the case “Aarong and BRAC: Scaling a Social Enterprise Brand.” They received Tk. 3,000 and a souvenir.

Team Catalyst, comprising Sakib Ahmed, Proma Ghosh and Nafim Islam Srabon, became the second runner-up with their case “Beximco Group's Debt Crisis and Corporate Restructuring.” The team received Tk. 2,000 and a souvenir.

All other participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation in the competition.

The organizers expressed their gratitude to the competition's partners, including Hamdard Laboratories WAQF Bangladesh as Associate Partner, Excellence Bangladesh as Strategic Partner, InfoGram as Official Media Partner, and Stamford Photographic Society as Photographic Partner.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mohammad Ahsan Kabir Rubel, Assistant Professor and Convener of Stamford Business Forum. Organizers from both SBF and SUEF also shared their reflections on the competition. The event concluded with a cultural program performed by students from the Business Administration and Economics departments.

The competition provided students with an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to practical business challenges while strengthening their analytical, presentation, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
