Stamford Life Science Club (SLSC) organised a Thalassemia Awareness and Screening Campaign 2026 at the Auditorium of Stamford University Bangladesh on Monday, aiming to raise public awareness about thalassemia, promote carrier screening, and highlight the importance of early diagnosis and prevention.
The campaign was organised in collaboration with Stamford University Bangladesh, BioTED, Genomedics, Base Care Foundation Bangladesh, and GenX. The initiative brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, faculty members, and students to strengthen awareness about thalassemia, a hereditary blood disorder affecting millions worldwide.
The programme began with an awareness session where experts discussed the causes, inheritance patterns, prevention strategies, and the significance of early detection of thalassemia. This was followed by an on-site screening programme, allowing participants to assess their carrier status and make informed healthcare decisions.
A large number of students and attendees participated in the campaign, demonstrating growing interest in preventive healthcare and scientific awareness. Organisers said the initiative aimed to encourage responsible health choices and reduce the future burden of thalassemia through increased awareness and timely screening.
SLSC expressed gratitude to the speakers, partner organisations, university authorities, faculty members, volunteers, executives, and participants for their valuable contributions to making the campaign a success.
“Awareness is the first step towards prevention. Through initiatives like this, we can build a healthier society where informed choices help save lives,” said the organisers.
The campaign concluded with the message: “Know Your Status. Prevent Thalassemia. Build a Healthier Tomorrow.”
